The advantages and disadvantages of different edge banding techniques for whole house customization. Three edge banding techniques are usually used for the boards in whole house customization: EVA edge banding, PUR edge banding, and laser edge banding.

 

1、 EVA edging ➡ Principle: EVA is currently a commonly used hot melt adhesive for heating furniture;  

❌ Disadvantages: EVA edge sealing requires a large amount of glue, which is prone to overflow, the glue line is very obvious, and it is easy to crack (depending on the edge sealing machine used);

✅ Advantages: Low price, it belongs to the physical reaction of heating the adhesive particles and melting them for application and edge sealing. Simply put, it is similar to the principle of making handmade solid adhesive when we were children; Many non branded particle adhesives have weak edge sealing, especially in winter, and are prone to cracking after being exposed to sunlight in summer, making the board core very unsightly when exposed. It is not recommended to use it in balcony exposed areas and harsh weather conditions. I prefer to recommend using PUR for edge sealing. If using particle adhesive for EVA edge sealing, try to choose brands such as San Hao, as the quality is guaranteed.  

2、 PUR edging ➡ Principle: Hot melt adhesive reacts with moisture in the air after heating, absorbs moisture from the air, and solidifies. Heating after solidification will not melt;  

❌ Disadvantages: The price is relatively high compared to EVA;  

✅ Advantages: Strong stability, good sealing of unknown products on the adhesive line, the adhesive itself is liquid and belongs to chemical reaction bonding, which is very strong; I often hear from whole house custom factories that the Haomai edge banding machine costs several million yuan per device. The adhesive used is mostly three good PUR adhesive, which not only uses less adhesive and tightens the bond, but also has no adhesive line after edge sealing, suitable for various weather conditions.  

3、 Laser edge banding ➡ Principle: Laser edge banding has a dedicated laser edge banding strip with an activated layer. The laser is applied to activate the layer and weld the edge banding strip onto the sheet metal

❌ Disadvantage: Expensive price, commonly used on imported boards. Different colored boards are equipped with edge banding strips of corresponding colors, but the edge banding strips have fewer colors and less variety of colors to choose from.  

✅ Advantages: Beautiful, sturdy, durable, rounded and smooth edges, very attractive.

The edge banding process is also a gradual development and continuous improvement process, ranked from advanced to ordinary in the following order: laser edge banding>PUR edge banding>EvA edge banding
